Topic: 21A-12127 crab distributor spark problem

I have used this distributor for over 14 years with no issues, but suddenly I'm not getting a spark on cylinder 7. The others are fine and number 7 spark plug wire has continuity so the issue appears to be the cap or rotor? I've cleaned the contact nub in the cap ( 1942 version) for number 7, but still no spark on the wire...any ideas? Thanks!

Have you measured the resistance of the ignition wire going from the terminal inside the distributor cap to the #7 spark plug?

Are you using metal core spark plug wires?

I have had carbon core, radio resistance, wires test good at room temperature but show infinite resistance when they were hot!

Check the connections at each end of the wire to make sure they are good inside the cap and on the spark plug.

could be excessive wear on the rotor and cap making the gap between the two excessive. After 14 years it may be time to change.

You mention that after cleaning the cap "there is still no spark on the wire". Was this checked at the cap or at the end? I would replace the wire with a solid core wire and check the spark at the end against the block. If no spark, I would check the cap as the rotor and other ends are getting spark. A crack from the terminal to the end could leak the energy to another terminal.

Thanks everyone...I went back and thoroughly cleaned the number 7 nub in the cap and it is now getting spark, but probably time for a replacement as you mentioned.
