Topic: Press fit cam gear

Hi, I have a new cam gear for my camshaft. What is a safe way to install the press on gear to the cam? Warm the gear in boiling water is one idea, are there any more? The engine block I have has a small diamond cast near the lower right water inlet port. Any suggestions to its meaning? Thank you for the assistance.

  press fit cam gear,
what year enging ???
I am not a fan of the press on gears.

I prefer the bolt on. because much easier to replace it , when the time comes
first inspect the crank gear for any wear, or roughtness, because if it is,,,
it will wear out the new cam gear,
if the new cam gear is all fiber, or does it have a metal center ?
heating the cam gear up, is it a fiber or aluminum.?
heat up in a oven will also work. for the aluminum..
you can also use a ice pack on the camshaft .
WHEN istalling make sure you are dead on, no mistakes here for sure,
hope this helps. 37Ragtopman ANY PHOTO'S ?

Thanks for the response, I have a '32-'34 non-vented, poured main block. Ten to twelve years ago, I had four camshafts hard chrome plated and ground to standard dias. on the journals. Two are stock lobe with press on gears. The cam gear is a gen-you-wine Ford Celoron gear with a steel insert and .0025 to .003 interference fit. Any other means to install besides a hydraulic press will be appreciated. This is a spare engine for my '33 BB tow truck that I've had since 1972. It's got a '35-early '36 poured main, vented engine. Thanks again.
