The decal on glovebox door states that type A fluid is the proper fluid for the fordomatic, Is this the same as type F or do they make a specific fl. for this?

I have researched this and found Dexron to be the proper fluid for the Fordomatic trans. Dexron is available at most auto supply stores and "big box" stores.

Before I had my Fordomatic rebuilt I used type FA that I bought at Carquest Auto Parts. Since I had it rebuilt I use the modern auto trans. fluid. Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem with a 54 Merc. Is Type F fluid compatible with Type A, or does the whole system need to be drained including the converter?
Buford8- Where did you get the info reguarding Dextron as a replacement?
