What causes a condenser to fail? Heat? Manufacturing process with inferior parts? Old age? Anything else?

Trying to solve why my'38 won't start. New condenser failed after starting twice.

Thanks

Ray

Many, perhaps most new condensers are simply poor quality.
NOS condensers are often defective due to age. A couple of years ago, I'd tested perhaps 50 NOS condensers and found just four as I recall that were still within spec.
I have had great experience with Hunt's Magneto condensers. The 32mfd is the best choice in my opinion. A bit pricey but hey, once and done...

Thanks Mike for the info. I searched Joe Hunt's site and did not locate a 32mfd condenser. Do you have a part number or should I call Joe Hunt's support?
Thanks

Thanks Mike. I located the condenser. I'll order when they open.

Question. Could you modify the bracket to attach it to the block? If not how did you keep the condenser from flopping around.

Kubes40: Thanks for providing that condensor info. I recall when the situation involving poor quality of condensors was becoming a problem and buying a few NOS from the fellow in CT when he retired. What kind of meter can I get to test their mdf rating ?

Ray, I simply remove the bracket from an old Ford condenser and solder it to the new one.
I had an old test unit that was specifically made to test those condensers. I don't know if there is a modern way to do so.
