I acquired this restomod/hotrod last year. It has a removable hardtop. I want a convertible top instead. I tried all of the local shops and the only custom top fabricator here in Colorado Springs just retired. Is it possible to get a stock top and modify it myself? Ideas?

Making this into a fully functional convertible looks to be an extremely challenging project.

It looks like the top has been chopped and the windshield cut down to fit, do you want to keep this look, or would be willing to go to a stock height windshield and top?

Are any of the original top mechanism parts still with the car?

If you are willing to be happy with a stock height top and windshield, you could call around to old car salvage yards to see if you can locate a 1946 to 1948 convertible in any of them. Once located, you could purchase all of the parts available for the convertible top and the mechanism and systems required to make it work. Also you would want to obtain the A pillars to restore the stock height.

I would not call your car a restomod. RestoMod means restored appearance, modern mechanicals. You have a beautiful full-on customized street rod.

Just getting a functioning top to work on a chopped car can be a real task. All the arms that had been factory engineered to fold into one another properly, now must be taken apart, re-engineered, cut and bent and re-riveted to fold down easily. You might try to locate a '46-'48 top but that's just the start. Your body is a custom body and you'r basically at square one as far as the top mount's etc. Good luck!
