I have a 33 model 40 how does the gas gauge work?

Very slight air pressure is developed in the gas tank sending unit. The pressure travels through a very small tube to the back of the dash gauge. The pressure displaces a red fluid to the front glass tube. More pressure the higher the red fluid less pressure the lower the red fluid.

No, it's basically a mechanical gauge.
