Hi Tom: The output of the coil from ALL the early Ford V8s is 15,000 to 20,000 volts. This comes with a low amperage but is still enough to give you a good shock without injury. If you need info on how to test your coil in car, just let me (us) know. My source of info is Ford V8 Cars and Trucks by Pagé, 1945.

BRL, thank you for the information on the oe coils output. im actually have been using remote can coils and condensers since prev. owner had installed before i had taken stewardship of my '37. i just had installed a new condenser and coil a couple of days ago. the new standard motor parts blue streak coil is rated at 25,000 volts. nice strong spark now. wasnt getting complete burn before replace. i dont smell the gassy fumes spewing out the oil fill/breather now. never knew what the out put of oe or the last macs coil i had installed 3&1/2 yrs ago Tom.
