After running for an awhile the engine shuts down and I am unable to restart. Some one suggested vapor lock. Someone suggested that the coil heats up. I did drain some fuel one time and put in carburetor . No spork so no fire. 1939 flathead motor original motor. Suggestions? Thx

QUESTIONS, does the engine start after it cools down, if it does send the DIST and coil to SKIP for rebuilding, if it still does not start when cooled down, check the following did you check for voltage at the coil, with the switch on ? is voltage there and how many volts, ? if not check your ignition switch to see if voltage is there if not' back track the wiring to the solenoid, is the wires clean and tight, if not check to see if the heavy battery cable is feeding the solenoid hope this helps 37 Ragtopman ,MAINE

Both will often work ok when cold but then fail when they get warm from operating. I would not bother with the distributor ; if engine runs ok for a while not likely anything wrong there.

I think Jay has it right. A failing coil or a condenser. I would opt to change the condenser first.
