  don't know very much about my '37 i think it was purchased in iowa. the elderly gent that had owned before me had owned since 1956.

  If you are trying to find the history, former owners, where it was built, etc., you are wasting your time, Ford and/or other manufactures other than Chrysler and the various states prior to the late '60 did not keep track of vehicles..
If your car has the original serial number stamped into the left front frame rail adjacent to the steering it will have a * 18 the rest of the numbers are sequential numbers that was assigned to the eng/trans assembly by the Ford factory when they two were mated together at Fords engine plant.
If you remove the floor pan over the transmission you can find the original eng/trans serial number, that that number matches the seial number on the frame, it is original to the car. If the numbers differ the trans has been replaced. There is no engine number on early Ford V8's...
