Topic: 32 to 48 verses 49 to 53 flywheel

As I have been searching around there seems to be a difference between the 32 to 48 flywheels and the 49 to 53 flywheels. Can anyone enlighten me on the difference? They both are basically the same weight ,112 Tooth ring gear, 4 bolt holes and two dowls to mount it and I am not sure about the pressure plate holes. I am going out looking for one and I was wondering if there is some way or dimension to distinguish the difference. Thanks in advance! Bill

There was a post on Fordbarn showing the differences between the two. If I can find it I'll post it.

Here you go. The offset is different according to the poster and may cause starter issues.

Bill, you are quite welcome. On my 59 A-B it didn't have a flywheel when I got it. On that engine the flywheel has to be installed before the oil pan. I think on 49-53 that may not be the case. I was relieved to find I had the correct flywheel!

I took a double take when I saw “verses”, thought some bible reading was forthcoming. I know he meant “versus.”
