Topic: 1937 engine block number or identification

  Hi guys:
I took the intake manifold (valve cover) off my 1937 Phaeton engine and noticed there was a number metal stamped on the block. The number was metal stamped on the block mating surface to the intake manifold at the front of the block right under where the generator mounts to the intake. The number is E2597. This number is not anywhere close to the VIN number stamped on the frame or the number stamped on the trans bell housing. Does anyone know if this number is of any significance? My engine does have the 21 stud heads on it.

It (E2597) is most likely a rebuild identification number.
Ford did NOT stamp the blocks with a serial number. Thus, don't expect to locate any number to match the serial number of your vehicle.
At least in 1940, Ford would stamp blocks in that area if they (block) were "special" in some way. Common codes were “HS” for hardened sleeves, “AP” for aluminum pistons.
