does the 42-48 timing cover bolt right on the earlier 32-41 engines? thanks!

The 42-48 cover takes the 2 bolt distributor and the earlier cover take the 3 bolt helmet distributor. The cam in the early engine "sticks out" too far so you will need a spacer between the cover and the dizzy. Dick Spadafora (sp?) sells them. John

Parrish I believe that Tom O answered your initial question correctly. If you have a 42-48 timing gear cover it will bolt on directly. You will however need a spacer that is added to the end of the camshaft as there now will be a gap between the end of the camshaft and the 42-48 style distributor. I have never seen the added piece that you have a picture of but I suppose that will eliminate the need to find a later style timing gear cover. I think you will still need the spacer for the end of the camshaft however. Ted

Ted, The small male/female spacer you describe is for when you have a later block and want to stay with the 3 bolt helmet dizzy. The early engine cam "sticks out" too far so you need the spacer between the 2 bolt cover and the dizzy. Just went thru this with a 221 I rebuilt. John

John Of course you are right. With the later style timing gear cover and distributor you don't need the male/female spacer. However with that gadget that Parrish has a picture of added to a three bolt timing gear cover I'm not sure what you need. Ted
