Topic: More 1947 running boards

This is a follow up to my previous post. I read online Ford used aluminum on some parts when steel was difficult to get. My running boards on my Super Deluxe coupe are shallow narrow ribbed aluminum. I see vendors sell rubber running board cover material. I looked online and found pictures of running boards both covered in rubber and plain aluminum. My question: were steel running boards covered with rubber and aluminum left bare? Were Deluxe different than Super Deluxe? Thanks in advance for the replies.

James, my recollection on the aluminum boards is that there was no rubber covering. No difference between Super Deluxe and Deluxe.

For what its worth ..... My late '47 super deluxe sedan (long door) coupe has rubber on steel.

I'm fairly sure the running boards on the '46/47/48's are similar. My '46 Super Deluxe Coupe has a ribbed rubber covering. The 41-48 EFV8 book on page 2-10, shows the running board with the base number of 16451. Drake's catalogue lists the covers as P/N 21A16450/1, for the 1942-48 car.

The Early V8 club 1946-48 advisor is John MacDonald. His email is jbmc1936@gmail.com. I'd send him a note and see if he can give some more information. My recollection is that I have not seen the ribbed aluminum boards have the rubber cover. I don't think they would have gone thru the trouble (tooling) to make the ribs if the rubber cover was going to be used. Having owned 12 1942-48 cars, I can tell you I'm still learning new things though.

Some 47 & 48s did come with aluminum running boards, mostly on sedans.
