I believe I purchased a 1935 3 window coupe on a 1939 chassis with these numbers *18-2010198*. It has hydraulic brakes. I am new to fords, lots to learn.

Where are you finding the number? It should be visible by looking under the hood on the top of the left side frame rail and a couple of times on the top of the left hand frame rail under the body. Sequence is correct for a 1935 (see VanPelts site http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm ). Why do you think the chassis is '39? How about some pictures? Get the questions sorted out before the seller disappears into the night. Add your general location to your profile.

Someone probably added the hydraulic brakes to your car. It is easily done on the stock running gear of a '35..

yes, got the numbers off the frame rail. I am in CT. The link you gave me does not work.
Thinking 39 because of brakes. Wanting to restore to original. Looking to understand the numbers.

The numbers on the frame rail make it a 1935 frame. As has been suggested someone has modified your car to have hydraulic brakes. Unlike modern VIN numbers this is strictly a serial number showing where in the sequence of engine numbers from 18-1 in 1932 to sometime in the 1940s your engine and frame were built. It will tell you nothing else.

There is a chapter of the Early Ford V-8 Club in Connecticut. If you are interested in joining contact the president George Strong at gestrong@snet.net. There are a bunch of guys there who would be willing to help you.

Welcome NewCar. I have a decent set of 1935 brake and clutch pedals if you are interested in switching back to mechanical brakes. Send me a private message if you want more information about them.

Be sure to check your brake system over VERY carefully as many of these conversions were done VERY poorly. By the way, I fixed the earlier link and don't know why it wasn't working earlier.
