Dimensions of third generation flathead engine (which include 8BA) intake and exhaust valves are: Head Diameter - 1.51" Stem Diameter - 0.343" Length - 4.76" These all have conventional cylindrical, non-mushroom style valve stems. Both intake and exhaust valves have the same dimensions but the exhaust valves are made of different materials to withstand the higher temperatures they experience. You can use exhaust valves for intakes but not the other way around. High quality aftermarket stock type flathead valves are available. Chevrolet style high performance exhaust valves are available in several diameters and lengths, these can easily be modified to work in flatheads as either intake and/or exhaust valves.
