Topic: Start button removal? 1947 super deluxe

How does one remove the start button from the dash? Looks to have spring clips on the back. I have been unable to squeeze them hard enough to get the switch to move at all. Real hard to get your hand up in there let alone push real hard... Can it just be pulled out from the front? Special tool?

Thanks for your help!
John

Should be able to get a thin screw driver in from the front and pop it out of there.

You might want to use a plastic putty knife to pry out the starter button to reduce the chances of damaging the paint on the instrument panel.

With much difficulty, I was able to get a needle-nose pliers on the two spring clips in order to have enough strength to compress them.

If it can possibly be saved (assuming that it is the correct one for the car and you like it), I would attempt to repair it and put it back in.

I purchased a new/repro one for my '40 and the metal was so thin and so soft that the new one would not stay in-I ended up cleaning the one that was in it and re-installing it.

RAK402, I had the same thing on my 42 with the repop ones. Ended up buying a NOS one on Ebay. Kind of spendy. I think around 60 bucks. If you aren't concerned about originality a NAPA one will work.
