The 2 piece cap (46-48) is a bear to thread the wire looms then into the outer cap then plugged in correctly to the inner cap if doing this in the car. If you do this on a bench, thread the looms, fit in the outer cap, then plug in to the inner cap. THEN, install the whole assembly, it is easier. The wires barely fit in the outer cap.
The crab cab is easy to wire in the car and looks nice. However, it my understanding they changed this design because it is not very weather proof. John

The crab style was dropped after the 42-44 model years as mentioned above due to moisture infiltration problems caused by the location on the engine, where water making its way thru the radiator often shorted the high tension side. The later, two piece, 46-48 design cured that problem. Plug wires should be installed in the inner cap with the caps and wires out of the vehicle. Once in place, reinstalling the whole assembly isn't difficult. Just be sure that the gaskets are in place, and the keys are in the notches. If you are not a purist, the conversion is worth the effort.
