Did any Ford Products ever use 15" diameter Wide Five Wheels? Where would one obtain 15" Wide Five Wheels with 5" rim width? Does anyone know of a source for these? These wheels would be used to allow modern 15" tubeless radial tires to be used on 1936 to 1939 Ford Passenger Cars.

Larger selection today of 16 inch modern radials than 15 inch. 15 inch are getting hard to find as no newer cars have them. Nobody in my area carries any 15 inch in stock. All have to be special order. Your area may be different.

i have installed modern radials on the original riveted wide 5 wheels being 16"black walls from amazon fer 108 bucks each. had small local tire shop dismount an mount didnt balance.i dont drive faster than 45mpg two lane still holding 35psi air after 3 months! the tire guy dabbed on black sealant on every rivet before installing new tubeless tires. they ride ,handle , bake ,way better than the 9 yr old wide ww bias ply non radials. i did not want to spend 400+ dollars each for the bias look radials. wish i had pulled the trigger earlier on the radials. if not for a leak in one tube in old tires. now mind you my wide 5 wheels were in very good condition to start with. i am the third owner of the '37 fordor humpback sedan. the 85yr old po owned since 1956. i dont believe the car ever sat out in a field hence the wheels were good.dont know what the cond. of your wheels are to actually reccomnend doing this conversion if your wide 5s are not very good cond. they being riveted could flex too much and leak air. There are 15 inch wide five wheels out there, but they are rare. As I recall they were made by Kelsey-Hayes. A good friend had a set on a 35 pickup. This message was edited by trjford8 on 8-13-23 @ 7:54 AM

In the mid/late '30's, and the '40's 15" wheels were a heavy duty option on many 1/2-3/4 ton pickups. My father always bought pickups with the HD artillery wheel option which were not the split rim type. I have a set of 15" 5 on 10 Ford type wheels, the lock ring is on the inside of the wheel. As I recall, the Morman-Herritington 4x vehicles of the 1930's/40.s used the Ford wide five wheels through '48. I know of two '47-48 Ford MH 4x's in Montana. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

Someone before me installed 15" tubeless wide-white wall Coker Classic radials on my '47. They have never lost a pound of air. I seem to remember now old post discussions about using 15" Mercury rims but don't know what why or what year.

The '48 Merc's came with 15" 5 on 5.5 lug bolt holes. The '49 and later Merc wheels had external hub cap knobs like the Fords. The Ford F100 '56-66 are the same style of wheel, which is similar to the '48, which will fit the '40 and later hub caps. The only difference is the rim width which can be up to 5.5" wide. I prefer the wider rim for late model tires, especially radials.. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

You have to remember that 1936-39 Ford Coupes were popular short track racers. At one time I owned a very nicely welded wide five center with a 15 inch rim. Didn't want them, so took them to a swap meet --- first items sold.

If by wide 5 you mean the 36-39 style wheels, they are used by a lot of dirt track racers. Speedway Motors among others, should have a supply in various widths.
