Topic: Weird Fitting on Oil Bypass Line 1941 Super Deluxe

I blew the bypass oil filter line returning to the flathead v8 on my 1941 Ford Super Deluxe. Upon closer inspection I discovered the fitting that failed is designed to flow through a bolt that attaches the distributor (see images).

Has anyone seen this type of setup before or is it a 1-off retrofit? Next, I'm trying to determine how to proceed. I'm wondering if there is somewhere I can find a replacement fitting or if I should braise it together or do something else. Looking for some thoughts.

Having a working cigar lighter in your old Ford is right up there at the top of the list along with having a working original hot air heater of things to render inoperable for your own safety and that of the car. Fix it for appearance purposes if you are serious about originality, but make sure that somewhere in the circuit there's no continuity.

I have a similar banjo fitting for the oil return line at one of the distributor mounting bolts on my '40 (not sure where this one came from-it has been too long).

We couldn't find the hollow bolt for it at the time we installed the oil filter back in the late 1970's (my father drilled out a bolt at the time).

Here are the original type fitting used in 1940. You fitting was re-engineered to use copper tubing. The original fitting would be difficult to modify like that, but there are banjo fittings with bolts available. I would Google "SAE 1/2" banjo fitting" to limit the number of metric ones.
