Your cowl number will help you identify it.

It's the number on the cowl that starts with A

Loren Sorensen's Wonderful Woodies book has all the Station Wagon numbers.
Bad news is that I am currently 1300 miles away from it. But find your number and that will help you identify.

Underhood drivers side of vehicle. Under pinch weld for firewall to cowl between the OD solenoid (if equipped) and the main wire harness grommet (to passenger compartment).

I have easy access to the book to get the date.

It is NOT the data plate.

Look at the picture again -- it is STAMPED into the cowl and starts with A xxxx it is not a plate. That is your VIN and will not have the A number on it.

I looked on cowell and no stamped letters or numbers where you described. i think maybe some time prior it was bondo and painted any more locations ?

There was only one place for the body stamping A number.
You may try and see if you can see it by looking under the dash area -- it of course would be in reverse.
As far as I know, every body (at least 1949-1951) that was created at Iron Mountain had a body number stamped on the cowl, below the pinch weld.

You are probably correct in your assumption that it was bondo'd over.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is stamped on the right side frame. On the 49-51 cars the number is stamped on top of the angled crossmember that runs from the right side main frame rail to the front crossmember towards the radiator. That number should give you the info on whether your car is a late or early car.
