Topic: 1936 ford door lock.

I have had to remove the door lock on my 36 coupe. I am now trying to install the lock ,but the actuating lever hangs down somewhat and I cant get the lever into its opening. I tried to hold the lever up thru the locking screw hole in the door jam, as I push in the lock but that doesn't seem to work. I thought that's how I did It years ago when I had it out, but I guess my memory is wrong. Can anyone help.
Thanks
Frank

maybe remove the door panel and reach up in there with your hand?

Here's what I have done. With the lock out use a fine wire and put it into the opening from the outside(maks sure the wire goes into the small square opening for the lock shaft) and poke it through the door panel. Then check the end of the lock shaft to see if there is a hole or depression in the end of the shaft. If no hole then drill a small one in the end of the shaft. Then place the end of the shaft on the wire and hold the lock with one hand and with the other hand on the end of the wire on the door panel side. Now push on the lock, keeping the wire in the end, and insert into the door. Make sure the depression in the lock body is lining up with the set screw. Once it is engaged with the lock pull the wire.
