Is there any way to fix the spring tention on the trunk lid so that it will stay up? I see that new repops are available, but would like to repair the old ones if possible. Thanks

The reason that the arms do not hold up the lid is that the pivot point is worn. You can weld up the hole and drill a new hole in the same spot. This has been done with limited success before the repop from Drake became available for the coupe. The sedan uses a different system and I don't know how to repair them.

there are a lot of ways to fix things but will they be as effective as just buying the new??? I had NOS on my 40 coupe that would not hold up the deck lid, solved the problem by replacing with the new style from BD.

Usually, the coiled springs become weak over time and, as many of us know, can let loose without warning and put a knot on your head when the lid drops. C&G has a list of replacements on page 303 of their online catalog at www.cgfordparts.com I have a set on my '47, and they are a BIG improvement
