I just bought a Columbia for use in my '35 pickup. The seller got it with, but not installed in, a '36 pickup, but there is no history and no one knows its year. How can I tell? I'm missing some of the controls, so need to know what I need. My '35 pickup has hydro brakes with '39 pedals, if that influences what I need for a clutch valve and bracket. I have the firewall vacuum valve, but no dash button or rod, and no clutch valve. I also need the speedo changer, but have a good lead on one. Can anyone advise me how to tell what year my Columbia is, and whether I need '39 or '35 clutch valve parts for it?

for 35-36 if the columbia fits it is correct. Both years use same mounting to the rear radius rods(flat oval plates). There is a rare early 35 style with fins cast into the housing (not stamped steel)but it also will fit the 36. you can use almost any year controls, but if you want it to appear correct the 35-6 dash valve and control handle. the 35-6 clutch valve should fit but you may have to make a adaptor to get it to link with the 39 pedal, contact Columbia two speed (John Conelly) in Temecula, CA he may have an idea as to the clutch pedal linkage, and he should have parts. columbiatwospeed@earthlink.net

The controls and speed changer can often cost more than the axle, itself. Most were lost when the salvage yard removed the axle without regard to the rest of the system. When buying a Columbia, be sure they are included, or the price for the axle should be very low. One place to try for the old style controls is 563/323-8791. It is an old yard here in Iowa where I have found lots of hard to find items, and the owner had some old type Columbia parts. I haven't bought from them for a long time, but it is worth a try.
