Ford Part B-13465, Commercial #1158 bulbs, are the pins on these taillight bulbs supposed to be in line or offset? What other number bulbs might work? Thanks.

Being as the 1158 bulb is for tail light only (single contact), I would think both pins are in line. If there are two contacts in the light socket, it would mean you have tail and brake lights, the bulb for that would be an 1154, which would have offset pins If I recall correctly, an 1129 is a single contact that is a 6V bulb with inline pins.

51 Woodie, What makes you think it is a single purpose bulb? Because your '51 has single purpose bulbs and therefore all Ford tail lamps must have single purpose bulbs? A '35-'36 tail lamp has a single bulb with two filaments and two contacts and therefore the pins are offset to ensure the correct filament is aligned with appropriate contact in the socket. It is not a single purpose bulb, but rather serves as both the tail lamp and the brake lamp. Google "automotive light bulb 1158" and see what you find if you don't know rather than guess and potentially mislead.

Yes the 1158 light bulb is the original bulb for the 35/36 tail and brake light. It is 21/3 CP and the 3CP was used for the tail light . It is a double contact bulb but its retaining pins are equally spaced. So it has to be correctly installed since it can be reversed.

3W2. I wasn't referring to the 51 Woodie lights, I looked through Mac's, Carpenter's and Drake's catalogues, and based on the P/N B-13465 that 36fordor listed, the cats show that P/N as a single contact, 21 CP 6 volt bulb. Of course the cats give different CP ratings, but as I read, they are single contact bulbs. I will however defer to hands/eyes on knowledge.

The 1158 bulb is a dual filament bulb and the pins are not offset. The bulb should have marking indicating the top of the base when the bulb is installed. It is possible to install the bulb upside down and it will not work correctly installed upside down. If your socket is designed for the 1158 bulb, it is the only incandescent bulb that will work. NAPA and other part stores should be able to get you the bulb. I don't know of a 12volt equivalent. Tom
