Both the 36 & 37 Ford books list whitewall width as “double.” Double what, what is the actual width in inches?

Double, as having whitewalls on both sides of the tire.

Color me crazy but I’ve never seen an antique car with whitewalls on the inside.

Then you led a sheltered life. Until 1940, when a car was equipped with wsw tires, both sides were white, purportedly to ensure that one side was flawless.

Dean, You have indeed led a sheltered life

Single side whitewall tires on pre (early) '40 Fords were NOT offered by Ford.

  Tim,

When you 1) sign up for the Grand National Meet and 2) come to Dearborn, you will see plenty of examples of double whitewalls.

You can also ask all these guys why they keep calling you Dean.

They call me Dean because my sign in is Dean333, actually my middle name. They don’t look at my signature in BIG letters at the bottom!!
