  Does the top section of the filter (other than the screw on lid)come apart to clean the wire mesh portion? Thanks Bruce

Nope! If you want to get the mesh out you will need to cut some of the "I" supports and re-attach them after the mesh has been dealt with. If you are looking for something you can take apart without a hassle use a '37 and up filter or go to a '34-'36 oil bath air filter.

  I purchased my copper mesh from Roy Nacewicz and he explained how to install it without cutting anything out, takes a little time but it can be done.

  We have been doing it for a long time. It was originally designed for the later models, but the principle remains the same for most air cleaners.
