Are there bearings for the brake cross shaft assy? This is what moves when I apply the brakes and maybe the reason I cannot get a better pedal on my '36 Ford Fordor Sedan? This message was edited by flatfoot on 12-21-22 @ 1:24 PM

Are the shoes adjusted properly at each and every drum? Are the links, both the clevises and pins truly round and not worn out? A small amount of wear at each clevis / pin adds exponentially to a lot of pedal travel. The cross-shaft assembly can be worn out as well. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

It's been a long time since I worked on mechanical brakes, but as I recall I believe the cross shaft has bushings and not bearings.

My 37 shaft has bushings, which I replaced. Not sure, but I think I got them from Joe's Antiques. gregg

Thanks to all for your input re the mechanical brakes issues. I have used all of your suggestions and have good pedal and brakes are great. The shaft does have bushings and I replaced them and readjusted the brakes. Wow, I got pedal now. Thank you to all and wish all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. God bless all.
