Hi All, I would like to try LED headlights and not having much luck. This would be the prefocus type. I bought a pair off ebay and they are total junk and do not work the 3 hole flanges are loose and poorly attatched. Typical Chinese junk. Who sells good ones and do they focus?

You did not mention what year vehicle you are wanting LED HEADLIGHTS for.. In any case don't bother to convert your original headlights to LED or haligon. neither of which are compatible with the lens in the '39 and earlier vehicles.. About your best bet would be RON FRANCIS BRIGHT BULBS, he has them in 6 and 12 v. I wasted a lot of time and money converting my '39 from original reflector bulbs, then converted the headlights back to original reflectors type using Bright Bulbs . The whole process ruined a good set of reflectors, resulting in having to find a set of reflectors, plus having to have them re-silvered and find correct usable receptacles for the three pin pre-focused bulbs. I should have mentioned in my earlier comment that the pre-focused bulbs were designed to match up with the prisms of the original headlight lens. LED's and halagon don't work the same way as filament bulbs. One of the easiest ways to improve lighting on a vintage vehicle is to do as the old timers did back in the day.. Add aux driving lights to the vehicle, generally there were two types, Fog & Driving, the driving lights were clear in lieu of being amber. I have fog lights for my '39 and clear driving lights for my '38, both of which have original reflector headlights. My '36 Ford has sealed beams which have been on the car since 1952. The old adage applies here: 'If It Ain't Broke, Why Fix it?'. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

36 Ford, How much current do the Bright Bulbs draw and how bright are they? I keep hearing good things about LED in Model A headlights, I also have a Model A. Are the LEDs for Model A junk Also?

hey camsuare, iv'e tried the leds you speak of with LEDlight.com. they were like some where around 20 bucks.the 3 hole mounting rings did come loose as yours did and were impossible to line up with contacts in socket. i did go to same company also talked with them and chose a bit more exspensive pair of leds for my '37 fordor. product #62528 P15D-30 5 to 30volt dual filament white 6000K. sounds like incandescent but it's a led. the two i ordered were $19.59 each. the mounting rings seem to be solid. they seem to project through the fluted oe lens better than the cheap ones that i had orderd previously like you have as well. i dont drive when it gets to dark outsay on way back home if i get caught in dusky light. i like leds cause they are way less of amp draw and put out a brighter whiter light. and seem to focus a little better. the orig. style incandescent #2330 put out such a dim yellow light and those would dim when braking. i also put some leds in for dash lights. Hi camsaure. I installed 6 volt compatible LED headlight bulbs on my '39 Deluxe about 7 years ago. I have the original reflectors and separate glass covers and had to make a slight modification to the reflectors to get the LED bases to fit in them. It wasn't very difficult to install them though it was a bit fiddly. Back when I did this each bulb came with some sort of a chip wired to it. This small capsule contained some sort of technology that would take any sort of input current, whether it is 6 volt positive or negative ground, 8 volt, 12 volt, whatever and automatically convert it so it would properly drive the lights so no other modifications were necessary to make to the car to get the optimal brightness out of them. Once installed no-one can tell they are LED's in the daylight. The headlights look perfectly original. If you forget to turn them off, they don't draw much power because they are LED's so the car will start. I think I paid about $125.00 for the pair at the time. Was it worth it? HECK YEAH! Even though I am simply using the original reflectors and glass covers, my '39 has headlight brightness comparable to, if not brighter than a 15 year old 12 volt Honda that I used to have! I tried everything possible to get my old incandescent lighting system brighter all to no avail. They were so dim that I got to the point where I just wouldn't drive the car past dusk or at night. The outfit I bought them from offered just LED bulbs, LED bulbs with the chip, and fully fitting light capsules designed for LED's that would replace an old Ford reflector system which was the brightest and best functioning system, but they were also the most expensive. And for anyone with a discerning eye you could tell they weren't original. It's been awhile and I haven't looked at their catalogue since 2015. It might be best to call them. If they don't carry them anymore you might be able to find out the manufacturer and buy directly from them. Good luck... The best LED headlights are from Logo Lites and they fit in your original headlight socket with no modification. There is no flicker like some LED conversion bulbs have and they are as bright as any modern car with LED headlights! They are compatible with 6 volt or 12 volt, generator or alternator, and positive or negative ground. An amazingly well thought out and quality product that is made in the USA. I put them in my 34 DeLuxe Fordor Sedan 6 months ago and they have been problem free.

I used the focused beam. White just like a modern car and does not show the typical yellow led diodes through the lens like other led bulbs when the lights are off. Very clean looking.
