Rookie here. My ignition key,1939 ford, will not turn the tumbler (?) that unlocks my on/off switch . I have applied numerous coats of wd 40 to no avail . Is my next option to replace ignition cylinder? If so, how is this done?

While trying to turn the key, move the steering wheel back and forth at the same time...

My ignition key allows the on/off switch to operate. .

I think what MG is trying to tell you is that the ignition tumbler also acts to engage/disengage the steering lock. If your steering gear has the lock in a bind, moving the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key will remove that pressure and allow the tumbler/key to move. If that doesn't work, come back for instruction on how to remove the tumbler. This message was edited by 40cpe on 11-4-22 @ 6:27 PM

Does not appear to be a Ford lock cylinder, you may have to check other keys you may have. If still no key look at the rear of the casting for a retaining pin.

The steering is locked. I have tried the back and forth movement trying to get key to work. No success. Is it hard to remove cylinder? I see where the pin is. No other keys

I finally got it where the key turned. Persistence I guess. Yes it has steering lock. Thank you for your help
