A friend of mine recently acquired a 1940 (4) Fordor Convertible that was being restored by a Restoration Shop in Ohio . The Shop said that it was one of (5) 0r (6) that were built by Ford to be introduced at the New York World' s Auto Fair, for all to see, but not to be sold.!! I know of and have seen some 1939 Fordor Convertibles that have been modified to look like a 40, Hood ,Grille, etc. This one has a 40 Deluxe Grille, Hood, headlights, Dash, etc. . It is very well done and could pass as a factory job, that is if they were ever made.? Did Ford ever do this.?

Thank You.!

Steve, No, Ford did not make these. Period.

Short story made long: The Mercury was introduced in 1939 as an upscale Ford. In order to emphasize that difference, Ford did not offer the Club Cab in 1939, giving over to the Mercury. In 1940, the same reason took away the Ford Convertible Sedan.
