Can anybody please tell me what’s up with these fender skirts?? Are they some sort of aftermarket skirt?? Am I better off showing this car at local car shows without these skirts??

A bit hard to tell if they are original skirts. The originals did use a chrome hex nut (in the same location) to latch into place but the nut on yours does not appear correct. Skirts are an accessory and 36 was the first year Ford offered them. Your choice keep or remove.

A local car show? Are you worried about being judged?

As a fellow '36 owner, having seen the photos in your previous post about shock absorbers, I'd say your fender skirts look excellent.

Stock or aftermarket, so what? They're beauties.

  “They’re beauties.”
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Each to his own opinion. I think skirts on our old Fords are uuuglyy!

If you remove skirts can you expect to see some scuffing of the paint finish where the skirts had been?

Here's what a red '36 looks like without the optional fender skirts ..........

  40 Coupe,

With respect, there were no "original" rear fender skirts for '36 Fords as Ford did not offer them.

kubes40    -- 09-18-2022 @ 9:02 AM
Perhaps I don't understand the original question.
The poster is seemingly concerned about "original" skirts when no such thing was offered.
How about original color? A red '36?

  Yes. That was my concern.

Thanks to everybody for your post. This is all new to me and I’m just trying to figure this old car out.

Soundguy2000    -- 09-18-2022 @ 11:41 AM
I think it also looks good without the skirts

kirkstad    -- 09-18-2022 @ 12:16 PM
Beautiful car! The red looks great and I love the skirts. Enjoy it. It's supposed to have double white wall tires also, so where does it end? I would love to see more cars like that at the local shows near me.

Kirkstad, I disagree with the statement that it's supposed to have double whitewalls. Blackwalls were standard equipment on all Fords, and as optional equipment, double whitewalls were considerably less popular than they are today.

Perhaps taken out of context... IF the car was equipped with whitewall tires they were double sided.

Nice car, Soundguy2000! Welcome to the Early Ford V8 Club Of America.

Re: "This is all new to me and I'm just trying to figure this old car out." ............

During ten years of coast-to-coast cruising in our red '36, much has been learned about these Model 68 Fords.

As shown in the club's Roster, you can reach me anytime at 519-666-2891 if you'd like to discuss what we have experienced so far.

Or use SEND P.M. to provide your telephone number, and I'll call you long distance at my expense.

3w2 is correct the first year Ford offered skirts was 1937.

In your place, I would buy the V-8 Club's 1935-1936 Book and use it to determine what is correct and incorrect for your car. Then you can decide if you want to show it on the Concourse at a National Meet or Touring Class. Most local shows do not require cars to have all "correct" parts.

You have a very nice car and it should do well at local shows and in Touring Class at aV-8 Club National Meet. I cannot give you any guidance on how well it will do on the Concourse, that takes a on-site inspection by a person familiar with the Club's judging standards for a 1936 Roadster.
