Topic: Custom Cut Drive Shafts for 34

MOXIE    -- 07-23-2010 @ 8:36 PM
Anyone ever use one of the cut to length to fit drive shafts that speedway has. They are suppose to be a replacement shaft for a 34. You just cut to length and weld the female spline in. I called speedway and they said the diameter of the tubing is 1 3/4" and the tubing is a little over a 1/16" thick. Does not sound like a very strong shaft.

That driveshaft is made by Dick Spadaro. You could contact him to discuss your concerns.

Sorry I mentioned the above to you Moxie. Will know better than to respond to your posts in the future. J.M.

I would like to hear from someone who has used the shaft. Not someone who sells it.

There is more to welding a driveshaft than just laying it down and sticking it together. Any slight deviation from straight will result in an annoying periodic vibration. We use a long bed lathe as a jig for that job.

  Moxie.
what are you trying to acomplish,SPECIAL APPLICATION?
I am thinking, maybe you should go to a drive shaft shop and see what they say,
1/16 thick is just a little to thin for the job,
if we know what you wanted to do it might be a little easier to figure out,
hope this helps 37 RAGTOPMAN KEEP ON TRUCKIN,

The hollow drive shafts are very strong, and made of special material. This requires a special welding technique to preserve the temper.
