Topic: Front Wheel Shimmy

  Hello there,
When I hit a man hole cover or other bump between 30 and 40 MPH with my '39 Deluxe I sometimes get a bit of wheel wobble or shimmy. So far that is the only time it seems to occur. If I jerk the steering wheel hard left or right or speed up the shimmy stops.
What advice do you have? Is this problem serious enough to not drive the car? Or is this fairly common?
I've had a look at all of the steering components I can see and do not see any obvious damage or anything wrong. I had this happen on this car with an old set of bias ply tires and there was no signs of anything wrong with the car, so I replaced the old bias ply's with new Diamondback Auburn radials and that solved the problem. This set of Diamondbacks are about 4 years old. Is it possible they are getting flat spotted like the former old bias ply's did? What would you be looking for and anything else you can add would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
