Topic: 40 Ford Crank Mounted Fan

Now here is the rest of the story. As can see from my earlier post in reference about the correct fan on a '40 . What is the recommended torque for the crankshaft "Ratchet Nut" that holds the crankshaft pulley & fan on a 40'.? Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of one coming loose.? I have and you all probably know what happened next.!! The cross bar on the fender support prevented the pulley from coming clear off but not enough to keep the fan out of my expensive radiator.!! I am concerned about the amount of force that a six blade fan must create at engine speed mounted on that front pulley, even though they have been running that way for 82 yr's.!! I welcome any input that you might have to prevent this from happing again.!!

Thank You.!
Steve

  Steve,
There was no three-blade fan offered on a '40 Ford. The six blade is correct.
I can only guess someone, in the past, modified a six blade for God knows what reason.
I have never noted a torque specification for the fan hub to crankshaft bolt. There is a Belleville washer beneath the bolt that most certainly must be installed properly.
The convex faces the bolt. I tend to place a few drops of Lock-Tite on the threads of the bolt for a little reassurance that things will stay where I want them.
