I have my Grandfathers 1933 Ford and we lost the keys within the last few years. Can someone let me know the best way to make keys for the car?

Check with 32phil on the Ford Barn. He is in NY. Here is some info he posted. He also posted his phone numbers but you need to log into the Barn for that info. Early Ford 32-48 keys cut by code. $10 each key $5 for each additional w/same number. I prefer to have the lock but will cut just by code. I can do some 1950 to 1964 call on those because the blanks may be different. I can do locking handles w/out the number, call for details. Personal Checks OK. You should be able to remove the door lock from the passenger door. There should be a key code on the lock. I am not completely sure about the early vehicles. Once you have the key code (it will be stamped on the lock cylindar), you can then contact the above locksmith.

Are the doors locked? How about the trunk? I assume the ignition is locked. Originally the door lock cylinder and the ignition cylinder used the same key so removing the door lock cylinder (which MAY or MAY NOT be easy) and using it's code as stamped on the side of the cylinder, a key can be cut that MAY also operate the ignition. The door cylinder is removed by loosening the small set screw on the side of the door. Depending upon the body style, the rear deck lid handle, may be removed from the inside of lid by removing the one nut on the end of it's shaft. Send the entire handle out for a key since the cylinder can not be removed without damage to the handle. Good handles are extremely hard to come by and thus very expensive, so avoid damage. If the ignition lock cylinder has been changed there may be a set screw replacing the original special push pin under the casting that is around the cylinder. If so your in luck remove the set screw and the cylinder can come out. Do not damage or scratch the cylinder face! If you want to start the car without unlocking the ignition just place a wire jumper across the ignition switch two terminals and the vehicle should be able to start. If the engine does not start REMOVE the jumper since leaving it on will do damage to the ignition coil when the engine is not running!! To stop the engine remove the jumper.
