Topic: 1936 stop light bulb / contact orientation

The Dualite socket (passenger side) on my 1936 Phaeton has the slots for the pins cut at 90 degrees to the contacts which, unfortunately, is the mirror image of the location of the pins and contacts on the bulb - ie, when the bulb is turned to the right to lock it in place, the contacts on the bulb do not align with the two contacts in the fixture. I need a bulb with the pins and contacts on the same plane (or advice on how to modify the fixture).

As an example, the bulb shown on p 94 of the 2021 “Joes” catalogue as 40-13465-6v shows the co-planar alignment; however, the bulb offered for sale on their website is 90 degrees off (the standard Phillips replacement)

  You can try sourcing the light bulbs from another vendor. If you find that the locations of the tabs on the bulb do not fit the locations of the slots in the sockets, you can determine which one of the tabs can fit in one of the slots and allow the bulb to be oriented to allow proper function. Simply use a hand file and remove the other tab from the base of the bulb. The bulb will be retained with only one tab holding it into the socket.

  For 33-40 Ford used #1158 tail light bulb. It has both pins at the same height and if viewed from the bottom of the base the pins are 90 degrees from the alignment of the the contacts.

  As 40 Coupe has stated the correct tail light bulb is 1158 and the pins are perpendicular to the contacts. Here is an image showing the 1158 as well as the higher candle power 1170.
