Hi, I am new to the forum. I purchased a 41 pickup about a year ago (pictures attached). I am learning as I go. There are three books in the online store that I am interested in purchasing. The 1940 Ford Book, 1941-1948 Ford Book and Great Trucks 1940-1941 Ford Pickup Truck Book. My question is which books are recommended, or are all 3 beneficial? Also, this truck was restored by Gary Barto (deceased) from St. Clair, Michigan. If anyone knows anything about Gary or the truck, I would appreciate any information. Thanks Al Cherry

Sorry, don't know anything about your truck other than its awesome looking. Rusty, my '39 p/u is just as his name says, a rusty old beater so I'm no help regarding the books you're asking about but I'm sure others will be able to help out. Al, that's a fine looking truck, and welcome to the Forum. I haven't heard of the gentleman you asked about, but it looks like he was a solid Fordophile for sure! About your name Cherry... There was a man by that name in California, long deceased now, who was the go-to man for restored Ford hot air heaters. If by chance he was a relation of yours, you've got a leg up on making friends with those who remember him. A collection of his restored heaters can be seen at the Early Ford V8 Foundation in Indiana. http://www.fordv8foundation.org/ To answer your question on books, I've always felt that the more you read about Ford, the more you enjoy the hobby, but specifically, the Great Trucks and the 41-48 will both contain valuable information for you on your truck. To be clear, the 41-48 will have mechanical info that is basically the same as for the truck, and the Great Trucks is thin on mechanical but has good info on the body. The Ford for Forty will have only the mechanical info that carried over to the following year, but again, the more you read about Ford... Alan

I like your pickup. It looks like a very good restoration. Here are some recommendations on books to help you maintain your truck. There are also reprints of the small format shop manuals for Engines, Fuel systems, Generator and Electrical and Maintenance. your 41 truck is more like a 40 than a 42 --112wb vs 114, closed driveshaft vs open so a book covering the 40 ford would be more benneficial than the 41 to 48 book. I have had 3 40/41 1/2 ton pick ups and currently have a 41 3/4 ton. asking questions is the best way to learn about these trucks. we are here so ask away!
