I've got a rebuilt engine, exhaust system and radiator on the restored frame of what will be a 1939 convertible coupe. I'd like to bench test the engine before I put the body on the frame. Can anyone give me guidance or give me a schematic on basic wiring for a test run?

You will need power to coil, use the ford resistor before coil. An oil and water gauge should be mounted and crank engine with plugs out to establish oil pressure prior to starting.

Here is some more information. You can bypass the starter switch by using jumper cables -- positive to frame, negative to starter. Use a gas can with a hose to the fuel pump to supply gas to carb.

This diagram might help. It's for a negative ground system. Reverse the connections if you have a positive ground system. I use an internal resistance coil which eliminates the need for the ballast resistor. As far as a gas supply goes I use a small plastic outboard motor tank. Less chance of fumes from an open gas can. ______________ No signature

I would take a comprsssion test to see if there is any compression, or low cylinders and do it dry and wet, make sure all your valves are free. this is to make sure you do not get a BACKFIRE though the cabruretor and cause a fire, if you have to prime the engine to start hope this helps 37Ragopman, Maine what you got there looks pretty nice , good luck
