Topic: Speedometer Driven Gear Cases (aka "Turtles")

I obtained a 17 tooth "driven gear" to go with my 3.25 rear end and now I need a case to put it in. Does anyone know how many different driven gear cases Ford made for passenger cars? I have a 19 tooth case (# B-17272-A for 3.78) and a 21 tooth case (# B-17272-B for 4.11) and they are different to accommodate the different size gears. I cannot find either of these numbers in the Green Book. Was there yet another case for the 18 tooth gear (for 3.54)? Those seem to be harder to find and I would rather not tear one apart if I find it.

The gear cases, often called the "turtles", are not being reproduced to my knowledge. The cases must be fitted to the torque tube so the gear will mesh with the one on the drive shaft. The driving gear is the same for all driven types, but the spacing is different for the housings due to differences in diameter of the driven gear. The turtles are made of soft metal, and are not difficult to reshape as needed. If you take too much off the bottom, you can adjust the mesh by adding gaskets. We have used a smaller drum sander for the job.
