Topic: 12 Volt Portable Jump Starter for 6 Volt 1936 Ford

Can a 12 volt portable jump starter, such as a NOCO Boost X GBX45 1250A Portable Lithium Jump Starter, be used to start a 1936 Ford with a 6 volt system without damage to the electrical system?

I've jumped my Model A with my 12V Chrysler 300 with no problems. Make sure all the lights are off and once it starts disconnect the cables. Same thing with a 12V jump box.

With a low 6 volt battery condition, if the 12 volt portable jump starter is hooked directly to the starter it will not damage the electrical system....

Can the portable starter be connected directly to the battery without damaging the electrical system?

Yes, but as stated in my other post.

I would never connect a jumper battery directly to a dead battery. You could cause an explosion of the dead battery.

On a 6 volt system with a 12 volt jumper, you would connect the hot side directly to the starter, either at the starter terminal or the solenoid terminal with the starter cable on it, then turn on the ignition and have your assistant connect the grounding cable. Do NOT push the starter button, the starter will turn as soon as the grounding connection is made.

This method has advantages over connecting to the battery. You do not connect the 12 volts to the 6 volt coil, lights and a dead battery. You do not drain the jumper battery trying to charge the dead battery.
