On my '39 and I suspect your '34, the radiator leg sits on a canvas type material that sits on the car frame. The spring goes over the bolt on top of the radiator leg and then is secured with nut and cotter key. BTW, the bolt is inserted from the bottom of the frame upward. The fuel tank spring mount is the same with the spring on the tank flange.

Larry, I don't know where the springs go on a 1934 Ford, but the Club has a 1933 - 1934 book to help in the correct restoration of these cars. Also to add to Ken's post, just don't crank down on the springs, let them do their job. I tighten the nut's down to just where I can get the cotter pin in. I'll never forget the car I saw with the spring's almost bottomed out, with the cotter spring about a quarter inch above the nut.

The original placement of the springs on the '34 radiator attachment bolts was on top of the brackets on the radiator with the head of the bolt beneath the front cross member extensions. The same configuration applied to the single spring on the left side gas tank flange. Both the radiator mounting brackets and the flanges of the gas tank rested on 1/8" fabric-reinforced rubber pads.
