Topic: horn wiring

  Hello Ford Lovers,
I have a 1940 Ford. I'm quite sure a wire needs to be 'snaked' through the steering shaft so as to ground the horn relay when the horn button is depressed. The route down through the steering shaft seems to be a 'dead-end'. I'm beginning to think I'm 'barking up the wrong tree.' Is there an outlet near or at the bottom of the steering box? I don't recall any route for a wire when I disassembled / reassembled the box a couple years ago. Would any of you please steer (yes, pun intended) me in the correct direction re horn wiring.
Thank you very much,
Barney

There is an opening at the bottom of the steering box for the horn wire. The easiest way to fish a new wire though the column is to push a stiff wire like a 16 gauge house wire up from the bottom and then attach your horn wire to that so you can pull it through.

  Morning Tom,
Thanks very much. I didn't realize there was a hole at the bottom of the box. I pushed a length of baling wire, but from the top. The chances of hitting the lower hole from the top are slim to none. Thanks again Tom; appreciate the quick reply.
