Topic: Install oil pan

Will the oil pan from a 49 sedan fit a 49 pick up engine, and is it pretty much a straightforward swap or it is a headache?

After several unsuccessful tries, I'm trying to finally resolve the problem of the notoriously leaking clean out plate.

On my 46 Coupe, because the radiator hoses join my engine bloc at the front, rather than the middle I have away assumed it is a 49 engine. The air cleaner is smaller, and of a different design than I have seen on other 49 Ford sedans and coupes. The carb is a Holley, and the first 3 numbers on at the attached metal tag are 8RT. It will not accept the larger air cleaner I have seen on other 49 Fords. The top of the manifold is cast with several numbers ending in 8RT The oil pan has a clean out plate which I understand was for pick up engines only.

BUT......the engine heads have 8 BA cast into them. Doesn't that indicate a sedan engine? Plus, I understood truck engine to have 27 head bolts, whereas if you don't count the two smaller ones on the thermostat housing, I only count 23. Doesn't that rule out it being a truck engine?

Thanks for yuur help.

if you look closely at the manifold it will say 8ba8rt right behind the carb mount. those clean out plates are notorious leakers, I know I have two of them, they can be made to not leak a lot easier than changing oil pans, but if you must--YES the regular oil pan with drain at the rear will fir, you also will have to change the pick up tube on the oil pump
