Topic: 1948 fuel pump output pressure question

Walletectomy    -- 09-07-2021 @ 2:56 PM
I have two reproduction Ford shop manuals for my car and the both shot tear down and rebuild of the pump but I can’t find what the fuel pump output pressure is supposed to be. Can someone let me know what it’s specs are?

Thanks,
B

Don’t know what the specifications are, but my stock 46 59AB runs 3psi at idle. Don’t know what it is at road speed.

2-3 psi is good. Stay away from aftermarket pumps as the one I got from a major vender was made in China and put out 5 psi.

You do not need to worry about fuel pressure unless your fuel pump is overcoming the float and you are having flooding conditions. The spring that controls fuel pressure will deliver enough pressure (1.5-3.5 lbs) to fill the carburetor bowl.

The amount of fuel delivered is more important than the pressure in a carbureted engine.
