I finished painting my front fenders and hood. I'm beginning to re install them. My question is where does the fender welting go? There were only some small remains when I took it apart. There was welting between the grill and fender; the fender and firewall. Should there be welting between the fender and running board? Thans Mike

Hi Mike, Per "The 1937 Ford Book": page 2-4 A strip of 3/16-inch black beaded Pyroxylin anti-squeak welt was attached to the inside edge of each fender with drive nails after the fenders were painted. Hence, regardless of what color the car was painted, the black welting was readily visible. This welting extended from the grill to each running board, but did not continue between the fender and the running board. page 2-12: Running boards had a closed-cell black foam rubber block, 78-16464 glued at the front to serve as a filler between the fender and the frame. It was one-inch by one-inch by seven inches. gregg

Mike, The book is published by the Early Ford V-8 Club. It has lots of very useful information and wasn't too pricey as I recall. FYI, I used the black welting from Joe's Antique Auto company. gregg This message was edited by 1937sedandelivery on 8-19-21 @ 3:53 PM

Also check with Drake as they may have the welting with the pre cut slots to clear the fender bolts. You can purchase the 1937 book on this website and well worth the money if you are building a '37. Mike-- The 1937 Book is available, in BOTH hard-and soft cover (soft cover is less expensive). As Tom suggested, check the "Online Store" link, in the dark blue portion of this screen, then check "Books". I haven't seen the 1937 Book. But if it's as good as Mike Kubarth's '40 Book, it's a "must-have". Good luck on your project. Tom

For clarification purposes, the 1938-1939 Ford Book was authored by Gary Mallest, and the 1937 Ford Book was compiled by a committee of 1937 specialists, of which Gary Mallest was one of them. Web Administrator

Gary Mallast put the book in final form to go to the printer. He cleaned up all the errors and added some very important information that was not in the original work. Without him taking over the project that book would still be somewhere on somebody's desk collecting dust.

Good Morning, Tom-- Thanks for the info. I've never met Gary, but I know the amount of work that he put into finishing the book must have been incredible. Thanks also to the Specialist Committee for doing the 37 book in the first place. Tom
