Topic: filled roofs in model A coupes

I'm trying to build a 40-50's period correct hot rod,
did they fill the roofs in those days or leave the soft tops in?
Thanks!

You probably need to look around for some old hotrod magazines. Here's a couple of websites to check; www.AHRF.com and www.jalopyjournal.com. Both should have lots of info on period hotrods.

The way we did it was to obtain a roof panel from the salvage yard, usually from a sedan, and trim a piece carefully to fit the opening. This provides some contour, rather than just a flat piece. It takes a lot of time, but will result in a neat conversion if done correctly.

You might try posting on HAMB, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/. They are more into the non-original changes. Ask which vehicle is best for a doner car. Be sure to include which body style and year of vehicle you have. Street rod vendors have roof inserts for some models.
