Topic: Brake Pressure Bleeding

On my '40, when I pressure bleed the brakes I get one good squirt out of the bleeder, then flow stops. Air pressure in the MC reservoir at +/- 9 psi goes down only a hair. If I pump the pedal once, then can get one more short squirt.

So what am I doing wrong? With air pressure on the reservoir, pedal fully retracted, why does it not pressurize the lines and produce a continuous flow? (I believe the MC cylinder plunger does fully retract, brakes always release)

It sounds like the rubber cup on the piston is still covering the bypass port in the master cylinder. You should have 1/8" movement of the rod that will push on the piston touches the piston. This will allow the piston to retract completely. If you have this unclear, the return spring in the master cylinder could be weak and not pushing the piston all of the way back.

Thanks Tom. I will check the push rod clearance.

  TomO was right. Again.

MC push rod was tight against the piston. Backed it off as suggested to allow piston to fully retract and uncover the bypass port. Then was able to pressure bleed.
