Would the grille guard be a point deduction since it’s an unauthorized accessory?

Yes. Any unauthorized accessory is (should be) deducted for.

Even authorized accessories can result in deductions if not complete (such as the early, complex, radios) or otherwise not as original. In this Club's judging accessories never garner extra points, just point deductions if judged properly.

Tim, why would you be concerned about losing a few points for having a non authorized grille guard in place? If you installed it to protect your grille, and you feel it will do a good job, isn't that more important to you than losing some points? Also, would it not be easy to remove the guard prior to having your car judged, and when that's completed, put it back on.
The grille guard I have for my car can be put on or taken off in about 5 minutes.

John
