I am ordering the 1935-36 book but in the meantime I was wondering if the attached grill treatment (having the chrome pieces on either side of the grill rather than having them painted the body color) was an option in 1936 or is this not a stock condition? Thanks.

The sides of the grille should be painted body color.

Thanks. In searching around on the internet I have found this same situation on a few other 1936 Fords that appear to be nicely restored otherwise.

Originally, the stock chrome grilles that came on the DeLux '36 Ford where only chrome on the front of the 'grille', the sides beyond the stainless trim was always painted body color. The standard cars all had painted grilles with the narrow stainless trim surrounding the grille bar portion. When a grille was damaged in an accident, the new grille, be it stock Ford or after market, came as an all chrome unit which required the painting of the sides to match the body color. Standard grilles came with primer only requiring painting to match the color of the car. People being people, always looking for a cheaper way, and repair shops trying to do the same.... many of the replacement grilles were installed without body color paint on the sides of the grille. Chrome grilles were also installed in standard cars to avoid painting a replacement grille. With the passage of time, many people have just assumed that an "all chrome grille" was an option, it was not a Ford option.. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe
