I was changing the heater hose valve on my 39 coupe with "A" heads and discovered the original valve had the long extension tube. The replacement doesn't. Will that present a problem?

There should be no problem. Be aware the old valve has packing, if your replacing due to a stem leak more packing can be added. Neither of the two valves are as the original style, but either should work properly.
